Designing a Picnic Table

Country Living gives us three ways to design the perfect picnic table!

Make over basic bamboo utensils, mason jars, and plain white tablecloths for the prettiest picnic ever!

Stamped Tablecloth

You can transform plain white fabric using Rit dye, paint, and a circular foam brush. The result: a cheerful tablecloth like this one featured on the blog A Beautiful Mess. (It would also be perfect for a carnival-themed birthday party or baby shower!) Get the how-to.

Washi Tape Utensils

Add a pop of color to bamboo utensils with strips of bold-patterned washi tape from cutetape.com. Simply wrap the tape around the bottom of the utensils, and cut or fold any excess. (Utensils, $5.49 for 100; webstaurantstore.com)

Gilded Mason Jar Vases

Put old mason jars to work as vases or candleholders. Wrap ‘em with fabric or twine, cover them with a coat of colorful spray paint, or apply gold leaf for a vintage vibe. You can pull off the latter (pictured above) by using a foam brush to apply adhesive to the outside of a mason jar in small, irregular patches. When the sticky substance turns clear—in about 30 minutes— press on sheets of gold leaf. Then, rub away excess flecks with a paper towel for a lovely weathered patina.
